Licenses tied to the host, not the guest.

Where software runs on virtual machines, what often counts isn’t the individual VM but the host underneath it. Which VM runs on which host is already in the inventory. The license balance uses the same mapping.

A license tied to the host is therefore inherited by the machines running on it, instead of counting each VM separately. Without that mapping, you get exactly the discrepancy that gets expensive in an audit: too many licenses on paper, too few in reality. Or the reverse: too many bought.

Counting follows the metric the vendor applies. Not the number of icons in the interface.
