What’s shown

Switch backbone, endpoints, VMs. In one map.

The prerequisite is at least one SNMP-reachable switch on the network. Devices without an SNMP switch are grouped under a generic hub node. The connection stays visible, the port level doesn’t.

The dynamic view is a live tab in every query. A quick look at the subnet you’re currently analyzing. Not saved persistently. For “Where is this device connected?” it’s usually enough.

The topology viewer shows saved diagrams read-only. For reporting, audit walkthroughs, and PDF export. If you need to trace last quarter’s state, this is where you open it.

The topology editor is the full version: background images (floor plan, server room), manual positioning, auto-arrange, custom shapes. It comes into play when you want to add floor plans with a layout or manually add devices that aren’t discovered automatically. For example, unmanaged switches or external devices.

The topology doesn’t stop at the switch icon. The port view shows every socket and the device attached to it, derived from the switch’s MAC address table.

When you open a diagram, LOGINventory compares the saved state with the current inventory. The markers give you the answer:

Is the network map created automatically?

Yes, you can have the network map created automatically: the inventory already knows which devices are connected to each other and how. An algorithm turns that into reliable network diagrams.

What is network topology?

The graphical representation of the logical connections between switches, hubs, and devices.

Can network maps be adjusted afterward?

Yes. You can change positions, delete or add shapes, hide individual device types. Custom shapes and stencils let you build floor plans too, and finished maps can be exported. That way, the map shows exactly the information you need.

What is LOGINventory?
