What’s new in LOGINventory9?

Management of Peripheral Devices & Label Printing New with 9.2
Since version 9.2, LOGINventory has been extended with peripheral device management. This means that peripheral devices such as headsets, docking stations, monitors, etc. can be created and managed as devices in LOGINventory via the asset editor. Labels with QR codes can be printed for all devices – regardless of whether they are peripheral devices or scanned assets. By scanning the QR code, you land on a mobile website that displays all the details of the device. Likewise, the handover (issue / return) of the device to a user can be digitally documented here (including signature on the smartphone). This way, you always know which user received which device and when – and all this without having to maintain Excel lists.
New Query Editor
The new Query Editor makes it much faster, easier and more convenient than ever before to create your own evaluations. Frequently used terms are at the top, a new Smart Search and a design concept that has been improved from the ground up allow you to create the evaluations you really need, even if you have rarely created your own queries before. Various templates are available in the editor itself, and of course you can also create your own. The filter conditions can also be exported as a textual representation and the use of aggregate functions has been simplified enormously.
Integrated Password Management
Access data and passwords can now be securely encrypted and assigned to assets directly in LOGINventory. This means that you no longer have to manage passwords in other systems, but can store boot passwords, local admin passwords, etc. directly on the assets themselves. All data is encrypted using a master password, can be categorized, expiration data can be stored, new secure passwords can be generated, and much more.
The graphical representation of network connections has been redesigned from the ground up in LOGINventory9 and now offers innovations that are not yet available in any other topology tool: Highlighting changes from previous states, the ability to “live” select which types of devices are displayed in the topology, or having the description texts of the elements dynamically generated by fields from the database are just some of the new features. It is also possible to search for devices on the topology, to store room plans, to display switches down to port level, and to add your own shapes and connections.
Online Readout of Warranty Information
For many well-known hardware manufacturers such as HP, Lenovo, Dell, Fujitsu or IBM, it is possible with LOGINventory9 to query maintenance or warranty information online and make it available in LOGINventory for queries and evaluations. This allows you to see at a glance which devices have valid maintenance, where it is about to expire or has already expired. Of course, you can also store your own warranty information if no online query is possible.
With version 9 of LOGINventory, it is possible to create your own dashboards and customize existing dashboards. These make it possible to visualize inventory data in diagrams so that, for example, the progress of a patch rollout can be tracked at a glance. The dashboards support inheritance in the tree structure as do queries or dynamic documents, i.e. if a dashboard is positioned below a location query only the devices of this location are displayed in the dashboard.
The management of custom properties has been fundamentally revised and now offers the possibility to define “presets“. With this, a set of possible values can be defined, which is available via dropdown menu when storing properties. In addition, formatting and units for values can be defined so that, for example, monetary amounts, quantities, dates, etc. are formatted uniformly.
The new Info Widget provides important asset information at a glance. In addition to a type-specific display of relevant values, it is also possible to customize which properties the widget shows. Thus, for example, custom properties can also be displayed here. Furthermore, the widget offers the possibility to store multi-line description texts, as well as to store lifecycle entries (and thus replaces the journal widget). In addition to the warranty status, the current ping status is also displayed, which is now also available in asset queries.
Another new feature in LOGINventory9: The Asset Editor. It allows you to create manual assets quickly and easily. The stored values can be taken over directly in order to quickly create several devices of the same type and not to have to start “from scratch” each time. Of course, the editor can also be used to edit devices that were previously created manually.
In addition to many new functions, LOGINventory9 also offers many newly read values that are available in queries or reports:
- Snapshots: Information about snapshots / checkpoints of Hyper-V and VMware
- VHD Drives: Information about virtual hard disks of VMs
- UserLogons: Actual logons of users to devices
- Operating System: Updates Pending / Reboot Pending
- Readout of group memberships of computer accounts, readout of group type
- Remaining lifetime for SSDs
- ConnectionType for monitors: Specifies the protocol used for connecting monitors
- Exchange mailboxes: LitigationHoldDuration, LitigationHoldEnabled, RetentionPolicy, MailboxItemCount, ArchiveItemCount, ArchiveSize

The changelog provides further details on all other improvements that LOGINventory9 offers compared to its predecessors, including e.g.:
- VM acquisition: Certain VM types can be excluded from acquisition using wildcards
- Automated cleansing of AD data possible
- Assets can be queried as to which switch they are connected to
- New syntax for usernames / group names: FQDN -> allows multiple ADs to be managed in one database
- Asset inventory based on Active Directory: switching between explicit and implicit node selection in OU structure possible
- New Custom Actions:
- Uninstall software packages: Using the list of software package installations (entity: SoftwarePackageInfo), a Powershell script can be started as a custom action, which attempts to remotely uninstall the corresponding package.
- Running Scheduled Tasks: The Scheduled Tasks list (entity: ScheduledTask) can be used to run a command that executes the scheduled task remotely.
